Newsfeed is a text-based work compiled from a data list of the most popular YouTube videos in the UK on 1st June 2017. The list is an alternative narrative of a particular time and place. Out of context, the list reads like a series of newspaper headlines. It reveals obsessions for fidget toys and minecraft, alongside more timeless interests like politics and the Royal Family. The production date was scheduled as 1st June 2017, exactly one week before the UK general election, two months after the beginning of the Brexit process and 6 months after Donald Trump became President of the United States. The work explores the idea of simultaneously acting as a newsfeed and as an archival document.
